Special Workshop: Words in the Woods
As the lazy hazy days of summer roll along, many people turn to the trails, woods and parks, marveling at the beauty we enjoy in Newfoundland and Labrador. The canopies overhead with birdlife, the way a tree branches out and casts shadows, a glistening spiderweb over there, a cricket calling for August or September, perhaps. These are jewels for poetry writing and that’s exactly what we’ll explore in two Thursday Twilight writing sessions: Thurs. Aug. 13th and Thurs. Aug. 20th from 6-8pm.
We’ll begin with a photograph from nature and do a free-write based on that to get our pens moving across the paper. Then, we’ll read some nature poetry to inspire us before we wander outdoors to do some more writing and catch some words in the woods. Around 7pm, we’ll return inside to polish our words and lines a bit with a cup of herbal tea from Newfoundland Tea Company---or, if the evening is spectacular, we’ll gather in the gazebo by the lake. We’ll end the evening with an author’s circle where we will read our creations aloud, or invite someone to read another person’s writing.
This reflective evening of writing is appropriate for adults and accompanied children, 12 years of age and older. Each Thursday will be different, so plan to attend one or both!
Cost is $15 (+tx) and the evening will be facilitated by Jan Buley from the Faculty of Education at MUN.
